24-HOUR
PRAYER ROOM

Located in the Upper Sigmon Classroom

We invite you to commune with God through prayer as you engage the scriptures in the Beatitudes.

In the prayer room, you will encounter 8 different stations that all reflect some part of engaging with one of the beatitudes.

Feel free to bring your bible to read and reflect or just read the scripture as you come to it in the station. Each station will invite you into an embodied act whether it’s writing, journal questions, or handing something over.

Take your time and come back to the prayer room as many times as you’d like during the weekend. We invite you to remain quiet and respectful of others also engaging with the stations while you’re here.

Below is one of the prayer exercises that can be found in the Prayer Room:

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4

What a good position it is to be in when we mourn, because God promises that we will be comforted.

College can be an exciting season, but it can also be a hard one. You might be grieving a loss, struggling with loneliness, feeling overwhelmed by the future, disappointed by how life is going, or carrying something that no one else knows about. Sometimes the hardest things to carry are the things we feel like we should be able to handle on our own.

When Jesus says, “Blessed are those who mourn,” He isn't saying that pain is good or that we should pretend everything is okay. He is reminding us that our pain does not put us outside the reach of God. We can bring our grief, disappointment, and questions to Him honestly, trusting that He sees us and promises to comfort us.

Isaiah 61:3 describes God's promise to those who grieve: He gives “a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

God doesn't ask us to hide our pain. He invites us to bring it to Him and allows us to be part of how He comforts others, too.

Take a moment to reflect and pray:

  • Where are you experiencing grief, disappointment, loneliness, or uncertainty in your life right now?

  • What would it look like to let God meet you in that place? What kind of comfort do you need from Him?

  • Who around you might be carrying something difficult right now? How could you be a source of God's comfort to them?
